Tokyo-Style Liberty Walk Audi R8 Sits Inches from the Ground in Germany

Red paint and oversized arches pull most of the attention first. Then your eyes move toward the ride height. This first-generation Audi R8 barely clears the pavement, and the stance changes the entire shape of the car. Audi stopped building the R8, though projects like this still keep the original model in circulation among tuning shops and social media pages.

The coupe shown here left the Neckarsulm plant in Germany during the 2006-2015 production run. Unlike a factory-spec example, this one received a full aftermarket redesign centered around Liberty Walk hardware. The Japanese company added exposed bolt-on fender extensions, side skirts across the lower body, and a compact ducktail spoiler mounted at the rear. Strange detail, maybe, though the spoiler size avoids turning the car into something far more exaggerated.

Large black V-spoke wheels sit under those widened arches. The rear set pushes outward harder than the front, with a deeper concave shape visible from certain angles. Sticky-looking tires wrap the setup, while decals spread across the red body and continue onto the windshield. Nothing subtle here. Even the side profile changed completely once the air suspension dropped the chassis closer to the asphalt.

Inside, there is not much to inspect because the windows carry a dark tint. Liberty Walk also skipped cabin modifications altogether. Performance upgrades were skipped, too. The article states LBWK does not tune engine output for these builds, so the focus stayed on appearance and stance instead of extra power.

Audi sold the original R8 with two engine choices over the years. Buyers had access to a 4.2-liter V8 or a larger 5.2-liter V10. Transmission selections varied depending on configuration, including a six-speed manual, a six-speed single-clutch automatic, and later, a seven-speed dual-clutch setup.

Underneath, the R8 shared parts with the Lamborghini Gallardo. That Lamborghini later gave way to the Huracan and then the Temerario. Audi also expanded the R8 lineup through multiple versions and two body styles, coupe and Spyder.

Production of the second-generation R8 began in late 2014 at Audi’s Heilbronn facility. Ten years later, Audi ended the model completely. Discussion surrounding a third-generation successor still exists, and current talk links the idea to Lamborghini Temerario foundations. Timing remains unclear, with the report indicating several years still separate the project from reality.
