We have seen supercar in psychedelic wraps and huge limousines in matte dark wraps but rarely such a piece of art as the Audi R8 presented in this stance and wrap being really eye-catching and very cool-looking. The car was painted by artist Wuerz that is not on his first rodeo, he has done more of these in the past and knows how to do it as we can already see on this gorgeous Audi R8.
Art cars don’t seem to be new. Artists use the car as a blank canvas for both stunning and exciting works of art. No two are alike, and that’s the wonder of the art car. BMW is perhaps most famous for such creations, with a plethora of glammed-up examples. However different automakers have dipper their artistic toes in the water, such as Rolls-Royce and Alfa Romeo in the recent past. Audi has, in the past, done an art car furthermore, but the Audi R8 here isn’t an official project of the car manufacturer. Instead, aftermarket tuning company ABT Sportsline, best-known for taking performance Audi vehicles and turning them straight to insanity, commissioned the car.
In preparation for two completely different automotive events that overlap in may – the tuning World Bodensee show in Germany and therefore the legendary Wörthersee-Treffen at Lake Wörth in Austria – the company commissioned cartoonist Timo Wuerz to spruce up an R8 with his style. Wuerz and ABT teamed up with German film wrap company SIGnal design to complete the one-off project that appears attention-grabbing.
The design, overlaid with a pink diamond pattern, features many women with a night-sky pattern throughout. Near the back of the Audi, the diamond pattern fades away, replaced by white dots that eventually mix on the rear bumper, fully covering the rear in white. It’s a hanging design that feels artistic while not being overwhelming. The athletic lines of the R8 accentuate the look. The car may have quickly become a caricature.
If you’ve never heard of Wuerz, you’ve heard of the companies he’s worked for. He’s worked with most car companies we all know and others like Disney and Adidas. He’s got some talent and a few serious clients underneath his belt.
ABT is going to deliver cars to both events with the wrapped Audi R8 heading to Lake Wörth. Wörthersee-Treffen takes place may 9-12 if you’re in the area.
